When Jack Frost Goes a'Decorating...

A wondrous morn dawned over The Spinney, splashing pinks, oranges, blues and casting intricate silhouettes with abandon...

The birds were silent as the sky lightened to reveal trees decorated by the exquisite hands of Jack Frost...

...a garden of white trees dripping icicles and frozen breath...

Witchy Weather Vane is frozen at the sight of Jack Frost and thinks North is South and South is North...she sits tight watching the magic that took place in the deep of night...

Every Witch Way!

Amazing nature!

...I am humbled by his skill and delighted at his daring, it is a sight to behold...

Shall I turn right into Wonderland?

You Believe in Magick!

On life's journey we meet people who are there simply to say the right thing at the right time.  They are catalysts who trigger something within ourselves by recognising and naming that which isn't yet clear to us. Some don't stay with you forever, others are with you for life.  Whether they stay or go isn't what's important, it's what they've brought out in you or taught you that is the legacy of having known each other.

This has happened to me many times, sometimes it hasn't been their own words it's been a book gifted.  One I will be forever grateful to and who is still a close friend, introduced me to Louise Hay's 'You Can Heal Your Life' when I was in my early twenties.  This book was really the start of my conscious journey to understanding myself on a deeper level. Later when we realised the depth of friendship between us we marked it by exchanging 'Jonathan Livingstone Seagull' by Richard Bach and Kahlil Gibran's 'The Prophet', both holding wisdom that touched our souls.

However someone I shall never forget is the friend who listened to me one evening while we were out on a Christmas works drinks many years ago.  Her response was simple but effective, 'You believe in magick!'.  We are no longer friends to my great grief at the time but now that's ok with me, it became a complicated friendship anyway and we moved apart as sometimes happens.  I will however always remember what she said, as it brought me some magical experiences and enabled me to reclaim and own the childhood sense of wonder I still held within...

Exhibiting with Friends

Last weekend I joined forces with Amanda Clark (Earth Angels Art) and Amanda Sheldrake to put on a stall at the Mayor's Appeal Art Exhibition in Saffron Walden.

Our stall
It's the first time I've ever done a stall like this and was interested to see what the response was to my work.

My painting
My only wish with regards selling was to make back the money I'd paid for the stall....

A Witch is for Life! Not Just for Hallowe'en....
I did prove that a Witch is for Life! Not Just for Hallowe'en... I sold several cards of witches despite Hallowe'en having just gone...

Amanda Clark's beautiful work

Amanda Sheldrake's lovely paintings

My work!

Me
It was hard work and great fun, I enjoyed painting all day and talking to people as well as being with other artists.  I received lots of positive feedback and made more than the stall fee so I was very happy.

Two Witches, a Cat and a Cauldron...

Since becoming an aunty nearly 8 years ago I've wanted to do Hallowe'en the way we used to as children.  This year I got my wish and spent a crazy evening with Wizzeline McWizzle and Bat Cat, scaring ourselves silly telling ghost stories, pinning the wart on the witch, eating cupcakes and chocolate eyeballs...

Oh Glorious Autumn!

What is My Truth...?

I heard on a radio programme recently that 'poets distil truth' and it set me on a train of thought about the nature of truth, being true to oneself and what that entails.

As the leaves fall the scales fall with them, clearing my eyes and making me finally see that the time has come to commit to my creative endeavours in a way that hasn't seemed possible before.

When I began this blog it was to follow threads of thought and explore the realms of my imagination. I have never wanted to make it anything other than a happy and fanciful place in which to talk about the joys and struggles of being a creative soul. But the last three months have been so difficult that I've stopped posting and consequently lost my way.

Three years ago I went travelling to reconnect with my inner muse by walking the land and questing, but time has passed and ‘real’ life has re-knotted itself.  I've woven a trap for myself and it's time to stop, unpick the threads and start afresh. Being on the wrong side of the fence - running a gallery instead of being the artist, working in publishing instead of getting published - running alongside but not being what I truly want to be, are common themes in my life.

So here I am in the beginning of the Celtic New Year making a promise to remain true to my heart, walk the path of my own deep knowing and live more creatively. The gallery will be closing at Christmas and I am already embarking on the freelancer’s journey.  I hope that it will free me up to pursue some dreams and explore my own work in more depth through the numerous projects that have been calling me…

The Old King

A New Witch in Town!

Happy Hallowe’en folks!

I’m extremely excited to be able to introduce  a brand new witchy character to celebrate my favourite time of year…

I've been very inspired since building my studio, drawing on the backs of many envelopes over the last few months, but have struggled to find the time to paint and develop my ideas. However since the leaves began to fall I have simply been unable to stop!

So here’s my autumn witch, ready to party on this night of all nights…
